A Berry Super Smoothie--A Superfruit "Simple Saturday Sipper"

This week's "Simple Saturday Sipper" is quick and easy, one of those things you just throw together that end up being really good. It's a superfruit, superfood smoothie that is tangy, tasty and super healthy too. My A Berry Super Smoothie is made with frozen strawberries and blueberries, along with a frozen pack of acai (you can buy them at Whole Foods and many natural foods stores in the frozen foods section), pomegranate juice and a Berry Green SuperFood pack from Amazing Greens (they had samples of this at Whole Foods and I found that I actually like the taste of this one and love the fact I can supplement my diet with more healthy greens and things). Garnished with a piece of locally grown star fruit, this intensely purple drink has loads of antioxidants and vitamins that assist in everything from good skin to lowering risks of many diseases to building up immunities. All that and it is delicious too. ;-)

A Berry Super Smoothie
by Deb, Kahakai Kitchen
(Makes 1 Smoothie)

1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 frozen acai packet
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
1 Amazing Grass Berry Green SuperFood Packet (optional)

Place all ingredients into blender, blending on high until smooth, adding water as needed to thin to desired consistency. Pour into a large glass, garnish and serve.

Notes/Results: Delicious--tangy and fruity and an easy way to get some great nutrients into my diet. Can't find frozen acai packs where you live? Just add another 1/3 cup of frozen blueberries or frozen raspberries and you'll still end up with a tasty, healthy treat, great for breakfast or an afternoon pick me up.

This post marks my halfway point of NaBloPoMo (30 posts in 30 days), only two weeks to go!

  9. This smoothie looks great and I love the color. I've been making some smoothies from Ellie Krieger's new book and was wondering if you knew of a way to freeze leftover smoothies? Do you have any tips on that?

  10. It's so .... purpley! And healthy too - you've outdone yourself!

  11. that is one big gorgeous cup of purple! thanks for the tip on where to get acai!

  12. Thanks for your guys--I like things that are healthy and taste great too.

Kim--I find it hard to freeze and defrost with the same good texture (esp if there is dairy in them) so I usually try to make just what I am going to use / drink or put in the fridge for a couple of hours and drink, or make frozen pops out of them. If you do freeze, I would defrost in the fridge until slushy then reblend a bit. Won't be quite the same but still good.

  13. This looks like a super healthy smoothie, a perfect example of how healthy and tasty can coexist.

  14. YUM. Sounds delicious. Please mix me up one! :P
