Besides being refreshing, this is a healthy drink, with just a few ingredients--in fact, I managed to make it with all local ingredients. The honeydew and limes are locally grown and from the farmers market, and the mint is from my lanai container herb garden. I even used a pinch of local Hawaiian sea salt to bring out the flavors.
Honeydew-Mint Agua Fresca
by Deb, Kahakai Kitchen
(Makes about 8 cups)
1 honeydew melon, halved, seeded, peel removed and chopped (about 7 cups)
Notes/Results: Really delicious! The melon, mint and lime all blend nicely together with no one ingredient overpowering the others. You could sweeten it if you wanted to, but I found the melon to be just sweet enough that I didn't need any additional sweetener. I saved about half of the mixture and poured it into my ice pop molds for my own paletas or popsicles. You could also blend it with ice and a bit of vodka for a refreshing frozen cocktail. I will make this again.
1 honeydew melon, halved, seeded, peel removed and chopped (about 7 cups)
1 small handful of fresh mint
juice of 3 limes (about 1/3 cup)
juice of 3 limes (about 1/3 cup)
3 cups water
1 pinch sea salt
ice
ice
Put the melon and mint into a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Pour puree through a mesh sieve over a large pitcher, pressing on the solids with the back of a spoon to get the juice out, and then discard the solids. Add the lime juice, water and a pinch of salt to the melon-mint mixture. Chill for an hour or two in the fridge and serve cold over plenty of ice. Enjoy!

Honeydew is actually my favorite melon! I mean, it literally tastes how it's name implies. How could you go wrong!
ReplyDeleteI would never think to combine honeydew and mint together - but it looks really nice
ReplyDeleteThis looks like quite a refreshing drink. I've never tried the combination of lime juice and honeydew. I am really liking the looks of this recipe.
ReplyDeleteVery refreshing! I think this would also be great with any melon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous sipper. That cool green looks really refreshing. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely beautiful! Fortunately I'm dealing with weather in the 50's & 60's today...so I don't have to worry about the humidity...but I'd drink it anyway ;)
ReplyDeleteA lovely drink! Very refreshing.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a lovely breezy day today, with very little humidity. A welcome break from our 4-month heatwave.
yum! with the heat and humidity that we've been having lately this sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this combination. A must try for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I am not particularly enamored of melons, but if I encounter a really sweet specimen, I am willing to eat it. Your agua fresca looks delicious, and the weather in Southern Cali is still fiercely hot. You suggested a spiked variation, and I WILL add a bit (or more) of booze:)
ReplyDeleteI keep seeing things labeled agua fresca - so that's what it means - fresh water? This does sound so refreshing!
ReplyDeleteI am submitting my Extra Snazzy BLT sandwich to Souper Sundays.

I haven't had honeydew melon in a while. What a great combination! I'm sure we still have hot days to come so I'll definitely be wishing for something like this.
ReplyDeleteI love how a fresh agua fresca gets all foamy and frothy on top. When you look at them you can't help but know that they are a delicious treat:) The honeydew and mint sounds wonderful together and I bet they made some wonderful popsicles.
